The Comprehensive Planning Section is responsible for the maintenance and update of the Comprehensive Plan. This is accomplished through annual monitoring of plan implementation, processing of amendments to revise and update the plan as needed, conducting an evaluation and appraisal report of the plan every 7 years, and reviewing proposed land development regulations for consistency with the Comprehensive Plan.
The Comprehensive Planning section also implements several Comprehensive Plan and Board of County Commissioners directives. These include developing programs with other agencies for the provision of attainable housing, addressing regional water management and water supply issues, and coordination of transportation planning issues with the County Engineering Department, the Metropolitan Planning Organization, and other entities.
The Comprehensive Planning Section, along with other sections, provides staff and cooperates with the Special Projects Coordinator, for carrying out projects with a long-range planning horizon, such as sector planning, linked open space programs, urban revitalization, redevelopment and infill and other projects.
