​At the November 21, 2017, Board of County Commissioners meeting, the board took the following action:

Reorganization – acknowledged and thanked Mayor Paulette Burdick for her year of service as mayor. Board members then selected Commissioner Melissa McKinlay to serve as mayor and Commissioner Mack Bernard as vice mayor. Each will serve a one-year term.

Easements – approved utility easements for Florida Power & Light and AT&T and a drainage easement for the Lake Worth Drainage District abandoning a 25-foot-wide portion of Old Clint Moore Road west of Military Trail, and adopted a resolution reserving a county utility easement over the site and abandoning any public interest.

Boca Lago – continued to January 23, 2018, a public hearing for a resolution to abandon the 60-foot-wide Vista Del Lago right of way and a 10-foot-wide access easement lying within the replat of Boca Lago. The public dedications are in conflict with future development plans by Pulte Home Corp.

Palm Tran – amended an agreement with the village of Wellington reducing the number of dedicated commuter parking spaces at the Wellington park-and-ride lot from 138 to 48 and extending the county's use of the facility in perpetuity.

Government Hill – agreed to allow the county-owned paved parking lots surrounding the 810 Datura Street buildings to be used by visitors to the nearby state facilities on Government Hill provided there is adequate parking available for county employees, programs and services. Staff was authorized to initiate, if necessary, a capital project in the estimated amount of $175,000 for the design and permitting needed to install access and operational controls to the county's paved parking lots, and the city of West Palm Beach will be asked to initiate an abandonment of the alley that bisects the county property.

Security – accepted on behalf of the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office an FDLE sub-grant award in the amount of $958,909 in reimbursement for security-related law enforcement overtime costs to protect the president-elect during the transition period from November 9, 2016, through January 20, 2017.

Affirmative Action – approved the 2017-2018 Affirmative Action Plan, a voluntary effort to correct under-representation where it exists on the Board of County Commissioners' workforce.

Cultural Council – approved an agreement with the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County, Inc. in the amount of $250,000 for the period October 1, 2017 through September 30, 2018, for services relating to the administration of the Category C – Level 1 (small and emerging organizations, children's and multicultural projects) cultural grant program for non-profit organizations within the county. Board members and the County Administrator also recognized Cultural Council President and CEO Rena Blades, who is stepping down in January. She has led the agency since 2004.

Retirement – recognized and thanked Karen Thompson, manager of Fair Employment Programs with Human Resources, who is retiring after 30 years with Palm Beach County.
