​At the January 26, 2016, Board of County Commissioners meeting, the board took the following action:

Legislative Affairs – received a report from Legislative Affairs Director Todd Bonlarron on proposed appropriation requests and issues to be lobbied in Washington D.C. and adopted the proposed 2016 federal legislative agenda, including priority appropriation and legislative issues, general appropriations, and general issues to monitor.

Smoking – directed the county attorney to review the county's existing policy regarding smoking in county buildings to possibly include e-cigarettes and to also review the state law that authorizes an outright ban.

Climate change – adopted a resolution reaffirming the collaborative partnership among Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties as the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact to jointly address shared climate mitigation and adaptation challenges.

Infrastructure – directed the county administrator to present an infrastructure needs report and third-party study results at the Feb. 9 BCC meeting, pending finalization of the reports. The reports will be used as a basis for discussion of funding options, including seeking voter approval in November of a discretionary sales surtax to fund backlogged countywide infrastructure projects.

Fire Rescue – agreed to consider a request to approve an August ballot referendum providing for a discretionary sales surtax and corresponding reduction in ad valorem tax levy for fire rescue and emergency services. Staff was directed to prepare the item for board discussion on Feb. 9 and first reading of an authorizing ordinance on March 1.

Economic Sustainability – authorized the Department of Economic Sustainability to provide technical assistance to the West Palm Beach Housing Authority and the city of West Palm Beach in preparing a HUD-funded Choice Neighborhoods Planning and Action Grant application. If approved, the city is required to provide a local match of $100,000. No county local match is required.

Tourism – approved a $300,000 budget transfer from bed-tax reserves for an incentive program aimed at increasing longer-term convention and meetings business at the County Convention Center and surrounding hotels and businesses.

Development fees – adopted a resolution granting the county administrator or a designee the authority to enter into certain proportionate share agreements with development order applicants to satisfy the county's traffic concurrency requirements.
