Friends of the Mounts Botanical Garden will host a variety of informative workshops and classes, healthy activities, and fun events throughout the month of April, including the always popular Plant-A-Palooza Spring Plant Sale. To register, please visit:

“We are proud to offer new and elevated programming in April, featuring some of our most popular events, including a free tree give-away with Community Greening, Dogs' Day in the Garden, and more—all at our beautiful 20-acre oasis, located just minutes from downtown West Palm Beach," invites Mounts Interim Co-Director Misty Stoller.

“Plus, we are excited to bring back complimentary garden admission for Palm Beach County residents on the first Wednesday of every month starting April 3," she adds.

 

April 2, 9, 23, 20
Watercolor at the Garden with Carl Stoveland
Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

$20 for members; $25 for nonmembers (includes full Garden admission). Classes are nonrefundable.
Registration is required; class size is limited to 15 adults.

Join artist Carl Stoveland and share the love of art and nature with fellow art enthusiasts. This class is for adults only. Bring your pencils, pens, paints sketchpad or watercolor pad, (or journal) and your favorite photographic device (i.e., cell phone camera or tablet). Some experience preferred. True newbies should consider the beginners class. Each week or two, the class will start a new painting project. Time will be split between demos by Stoveland and supervised painting time for participants. Subjects will be chosen by instructor with assistance from class.

Beginner Watercolor with Carl Stoveland

Registration is required; class size is limited to 15 adults. 

If you have always wanted to try watercolor but been overwhelmed by it then this is the class for you. Geared toward novice watercolor enthusiasts, this class will focus on the basics, focusing on a new technique and a simple painting each week. Palm Beach County Residents Day
Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (last entry at 3 pm)

Palm Beach County residents receive FREE admission to the Garden on the first Wednesday of every month. Visitors must show proof of residency for entry.

Qi Gong with Roxanne Cumberland
Wednesdays, 10 to 11 a.m.

$12 for members; $18 for nonmembers (includes full Garden admission). Classes are nonrefundable.

Registration is required; size of “inside" classes is limited to 20 adults.

Relieve stress and increase metabolism, flexibility, and strength. Qi Gong (pronounced chee-gong) is an ancient Chinese exercise and healing technique. The exercises include simple, slow movements (which mimic nature), meditation, and focused breathing—similar to Tai Chi but less structured.

Orchids are for Everyone: Potting Workshops
Presented by Mounts Botanical Garden & Tropical Orchid Society with Donna Tobey & Maria Trenor
Saturday, 10 to 11:15 a.m.

$10 Members $25 Nonmembers (includes full Garden admission).

FREE for Members of West Palm Beach Orchid Society with proof of membership

Registration is required for everyone attending; class size is limited to 35 adults; classes are nonrefundable.

Held in the Mounts Garden Pavilion next to the Welcome Center, the interactive workshop will be conducted by board members of the Tropical Orchid Society. There will be a brief review of the selected orchid's characteristics with specific growing advice, followed by hands-on repotting demonstrations and Q&A. Attendees may bring one orchid in need of repotting, plus their preferred media and pot or mount.

Mounts 24th Annual Spring Benefit

(Private invite-event only)

Sunday, 4 to 7 p.m.
VIP Tickets are $500; Supporter Tickets are $300

Themed “The Florida Garden," the enchanting event will feature an open bar, hors d'oeuvres and a lavish silent auction featuring a diverse selection of exotic and must-have items, including Rare Specimen Orchids, a wide variety of beautiful plants, home and garden items from the finest designers in the Palm Beach region, plus a book signing of Palm Beach Living by best-selling author Jennifer Ash Rudick and renowned photographer Nick Mele. Chaired by Palm Beachers Mish Tworkowski and Joseph Singer, the Benefit will raise funds to support maintaining the Garden's 20-acre tropical oasis, youth programs, and community outreach.

Free Tree Giveaway with Community Greening
Saturday, 9 to 11 a.m.

No registration required; first come first served

Free Garden Admission to Participants

Community Greening, with the generous support of Keep Palm Beach Beautiful, will be at Mounts to pass out FREE TREES starting at 9:00 am in the Mounts Botanical Garden Entrance parking lot on Military Trail. Species options include native trees (Green buttonwood, Gumbo limbo, Paradise tree) and fruit trees (Soursop, Starfruit).

 

April 13
Origami Paper Folding Class for Families with Reiko Nishioka
Saturday, 10 to 11:30 a.m.

$7 for member adults; member kids Free; $12 for nonmember adults; nonmember kids $5 (includes full Garden admission). This is a family class. Kids are welcome; must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required; class size is limited; classes are nonrefundable. 

The large sculptures throughout the Garden are an inspiration to make Origami art. Come and learn how to fold a square of paper and create a piece similar or identical to the large Origami in the Garden.  Each class will focus on a different category and students will learn how to fold up to eight different figures to take home. The instructor will give step-by-step instructions from simple to intermediate folds. All materials will be provided.

Dogs' Day in the Garden

FREE for MBG members and children under 6; $20 for nonmember adults; $18 for seniors 65+, college students, and military with ID; $13 for children 6-17. Ticket includes full Garden admission.

Note: Dogs are FREE for Mounts members and $5 for nonmembers.

This dog-and-family-friendly monthly event is held throughout the Garden. Bring your favorite pooch and enjoy a relaxed garden stroll. There are many great spots to capture family photos for posting online with #mountsbotanicalgarden.

Guidelines:

  • Non-retractable leashes only; retractable leashes are not permitted.
  • No more than one dog per adult will be admitted.
  • Rabies vaccination must be current.
  • Visitors should bring their own water and treats for the puppies.

Awakening Hearts:
A Cacao Ceremony & Sound Immersion Experience with Casa Rituals
Sunday, 10 to 11:30 a.m.

$25 for members; $35 for nonmembers (includes full Garden admission). 

Registration is required; class size is limited to 30 adults; classes are nonrefundable. 

Under the guidance of instructors Marit Tuisk and David Lepp, participants will receive a ceremonial smudging and blessing upon arrival to release the burdens of day-to-day life and will be given a cup of the highest quality, Ceremonial Cacao to take part in a sacred heart-opening Cacao Ceremony. This will be followed by a Yoga Nidra mediation and deep sound healing during which everyone will be immersed in the healing energies of the Gong, Crystal singing bowls and other high-frequency instruments.

Note: Please bring a yoga mat or blanket, and do not drink alcohol on the day of the ceremony or consume caffeine three hours before and after the event.

Blue Zone Cooking Series:
Sexy Salads with Judith Olney
Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

$90 for members; $100 for nonmembers (includes full Garden admission). Classes are nonrefundable.
Registration is required; class size is limited to 15 adults.

Healthy, hearty, heavenly salads are the focus of Mounts' second “blue zone" cooking class with cookbook author Judith Olney. The class will explore the history of salads, including some famous ones like Chef Michel Bras's Gargouillou, and the towering vertical creations that made a New York restaurant famous. Whole meal salads, side salads, and artsy salads—participants will leave with recipes, a wealth of new ideas, a lovely, wined lunch, and pleasure. Mounts will even let people pick a few salad items from the vegetable garden.

Full Moon Release Ceremony, Cacao Ceremony and Sound Healing with Casa Rituals
Sunday, 10 a.m. to Noon

$35 for members; $45 for nonmembers (includes full Garden admission).

Come be inspired in the Herb Garden of Wellbeing as we explore the healing power of the sound and personal intention while immersing in the transformative power of nature during the Full Moon Flower Release Ceremony. This awe-inspiring gathering takes place in a tranquil garden, carefully adorned with aromatic flowers and lush greenery. The Casa Rituals philosophy is deeply rooted in helping to bring everyday mindful intention to the busy modern-day person. This is achieved by creating a deeper and more aligned space, working with the vibration of sound healing and sacred rituals for internal peace and harmony. Upon arrival, participants will receive a ceremonial smudging and blessing, helping to release any burdens from day-to-day life, followed by a cup of the highest quality, Ceremonial Cacao to take part in our sacred heart-opening Cacao Ceremony. The Cacao works to relax, open the heart chakra, and help one to be receptive to the healing. During the Release Ritual, attendees will learn how to release that which no longer serves with Intention and Grace and with power of Full Moon. Finally, relax into Yoga Nidra mediation and deep sound healing during which everyone will be immersed in the healing energies of the Gong, Crystal singing bowls and other high-frequency instruments.

The Exquisite Art of Ikebana Flower Arranging
A Hands-on Workshop with Sensei Stephan Eberhagan

  • Session 2: 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

$40 for members; $55 for nonmembers (includes full Garden admission). 

Registration is required; class size is limited to 6 adults per session; classes are nonrefundable. 

Complete Ikebana Kit is $45

Mount Botanical Garden is pleased to offer a special hands-on Ikebana class with Sensei Stephan Eberhagan, who will teach the guidelines and the spiritual meaning of these extraordinary arrangements and will allow participants to discover their own creativity in the process. Spaces are limited, please sign up for one session only. Flowers and greens will be provided. Students will need a Suiban and Kenzan to participate in class. Attendees can order the complete kit, consisting of one 13-inch Suiban, a 3.3-inch Kenzan, and a pair of stainless steel floral shears. The kit will be waiting the day of the class. OR people can purchase each item separately on their own to bring to class. The required dimensions: one flat container (Suiban) 8-10 inch diameter and 2-3 inch height; flower pin holder (Kenzan) with at least 3-inch diameter. Ikebana flower scissors (Hasami) are recommended, but optional – as scissors will be provided for use in class.

Please Note: Mount Botanical Garden is offering two sessions of this class. Please select the time that is best for you. Both sessions are the same.

Plant-A-Palooza Spring Plant Sale

  • Saturday: members-only preview 8 to 9 a.m.; open to the public 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (last entry 3:30 p.m.)
  • Sunday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (last entry a 2:30 p.m.) 

FREE for Mounts members; $20 nonmembers (adults); $18 (seniors 65+, college students and military with ID); $13 (ages 6-17); free for children under 6 and AHS Reciprocal Admission Program members. Tickets are non-refundable.

Admission is by credit/debit card ONLY; no cash.

Whether one is an avid gardener or a budding beginner, the Mounts Spring Plant Sale offers something for everyone from 70+ sought-after growers and vendors. Shop for a wide variety of ornamentals, orchids, succulents, aroids, cactus, bonsai, butterfly/native plants, hoyas, shrubs, fruit & flowering trees, herbs, garden accessories, and much more. The Mounts Botanical Garden Nursery and Garden Thrift Shop will also be open with a great selection of plants and unique treasures for home and garden. Food and dessert trucks will be at Mounts both days.

ORIGAMI IN THE GARDEN EXHIBIT

The monumental ORIGAMI IN THE GARDEN exhibit now on display at Mounts Botanical features 20 larger-than-life sculptures merging art and nature. From traditional soaring cranes and gliding planes, to galloping ponies, emerging butterflies, and even boats, artist Kevin Box takes origami to another level, transforming traditional Japanese topics into museum-quality metal sculptures. Created by Santa Fe artists Jennifer and Kevin Box, the exhibit features Kevin Box's own compositions, as well as collaborations with world-renowned origami artists Robert J. Lang, Te Jui Fu, Beth Johnson and Michael G. LaFosse.
