On January 21, Palm Beach County’s Department of Public Safety Division of Animal Care and Control (PBCACC) received a phone call from Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) after a good Samaritan reached out to PBSO about a dog that appeared to be in distress and needed help from PBCACC.

That same day, PBCACC responded and seized Lola, a one-and-a half-year old, all white mixed breed. Lola was found with a makeshift collar made out of shoelaces imbedded in her neck causing her to arrive at PBCACC with an abnormally large head and a severe laceration around her neck. She was lactating when she was brought in for care leaving the staff to suspect she had just had puppies in addition to the swelling and inflammation she was enduring.

PBCACC clinic staff jumped to action for Lola. She had a two-hour surgery with more than 25 sutures to close her wounds as well as medication to decrease the pain and inflammation. Lola’s wound was approximately 2.5 cm deep and covered three-quarters of her neck which was very infected and impeding her ability to breathe.

Her previous owner was arrested and the PBSO case is in progress.

Now she’s making a phenomenal recovery! After only three days of care, her swelling was almost completely gone!

Lola has been showing her gratitude to the shelter and clinic staff with lots of kisses! She’s shown herself to be a very loving girl who comes to greet and kiss visitors when they go to her kennel. Staff members say that she enjoys playing with toys and describe her as sweet and friendly. Now that she is recovered, Lola is looking for a home that can give her the love and care she deserves. Interested adopters can find Lola at PBCACC today!
