At the Board of County Commissioners meeting on April 2, 2024, Commissioner Barnett presented a proclamation declaring April 1-5, 2024 as National Community Development Week in Palm Beach County. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development implemented the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program in 1974 for the purpose of providing local governments with the financial resources to assist low and moderate income persons with affordable housing, a suitable living environment and economic opportunities. Over the past five years, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded Palm Beach County over $32 million in CDBG funds.
