At the Board of County Commissioners meeting on May 7, 2024, Commissioner Barnett presented a proclamation declaring Aug. 4, 2024, as Nancy G. Brinker Day. Nancy G. Brinker is a three-time ambassador and is regarded as the leader of the global breast cancer movement. Her journey began with a promise to her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, that she would do everything possible to end the shame, fear and hopelessness caused by this disease. In 2018, Brinker spearheaded the creation of The Promise Fund of Florida, an organization aimed at increasing survivorship from breast and cervical cancer.
