Body

At the September 1, 2015, Board of County Commissioners meeting, the board took the following action:

Administration – welcomed new County Administrator Verdenia C. Baker. She has been with Palm Beach County since 1987, the past 14 years as Deputy County Administrator. Ms. Baker replaces Robert Weisman, who retired on August 31.

Ethics – approved on preliminary reading and to advertise for public hearings on September 22 two amendments to the Palm Beach County Commission on Ethics Ordinance. One change would allow a respondent in an enforcement case to have his/her hearing conducted by a hearing officer instead of the Commission on Ethics (COE). The other amendment specifies that those who file state-required gift reports must contemporaneously file a copy with the COE.

Information Systems Services – approved an interlocal agreement with Orange County, Florida for the limited sharing of resources in the Orange County Regional Computer Center. The agreement enables Palm Beach County to save approximately $9,000 per month currently paid to ATT for hosting county equipment at ATT's Internet Data Center in Orlando. If requested by Orange County, the agreement will be modified for reciprocity to make space available for Orange County in the Palm Beach County data center.

P25 Project – ratified the selection of Motorola Solutions, Inc. as the highest ranked vendor for the P25 trunked simulcast countywide public radio system project and authorized staff to begin negotiations with the company. Motorola Solutions was the top choice by a technical evaluation committee, following an open RFP process.

Citizens Review Board – decided against establishing an independent citizens review board to investigate complaints of alleged misconduct by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. The panel would have no oversight authority and significantly limited powers. Staff will contact the sheriff to discuss opportunities for citizen involvement on the sheriff's oversight board authorized by Florida statute.

Fair Housing Center – approved a certification of consistency with the consolidated plan for the Fair Housing Center of the Greater Palm Beaches, Inc. The center is applying to HUD for a Fair Housing Initiatives Program/Private Enforcement Initiative grant, which requires certification from the county. The Department of Economic Sustainability found the program's goals and objectives to be consistent with those of the county's analysis impediments to fair housing choice, an appendix of the county's consolidation plan.
