Commercial Environmental Horticulture

Commercial landscape installation and maintenance, golf courses and pest control operators in Palm Beach County remain among the fastest growing, and largest segments of the Agricultural sector. In 2000, commercial landscape installation and maintenance generated $450 million in sales, about 150 golf courses generated $664 million in sales, and pest control companies generated about $35 million.

These figures represent sales only. The full economic impact is even greater when we consider the number or personnel employed, support of economic growth in our community, and businesses and employees that support these businesses. The firms also play an important role in maintaining and retaining valuable green space in our community and in protecting our homes and businesses from destructive pests.

Palm Beach County Extension provides educational programming and diagnostic services to help these firms remain competitive, to keep current with the latest research and technology, and to operate in the ways that are environmentally appropriate.
