Condo Gardening Tips

February 2005

By Gene Joyner, Extension Agent
Palm Beach County Cooperative Extension Service

At the end of this month we should be safe from any further cold temperatures and some plants already are starting to put forth a lot of spring growth. There’s not a whole lot to be done this time of year except watch the landscape for unexpected weather changes.

At the end of this month start a feeding program to get plants off to a good start. Also it’s safe at the end of this month to do any necessary pruning that hasn’t been completed earlier in the season.

Sod is still relatively dormant now, but weeds aren’t and if you have a weed problem, at the end of this month and next month is the best time for applying selective weed killers. Also if you need to do any re-sodding that can be done at any time so don’t put that off if areas are in need of it right now.

The Extension sponsored Condo Field Days will be coming up shortly and the one scheduled for March will be held at Sugar Sands on Singer Island on March 17 from 9 to 11 a.m. If you haven’t attended these before it’s a great way to walk through a property and get suggestions on correcting maintenance problems.

For information about the field day you can contact Gene Joyner at 233-1754.
