The Honorable Moses Baker, Jr. was appointed to the Circuit Court of the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit in and for Palm Beach County, Florida by the late Governor Lawton Chiles in 1994. During his judicial tenure, Judge Baker served in the civil division of the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit Court for approximately six years (1994 - 2000). Additionally, from 1994 to 2000, Judge Baker presided over and/or judicially managed all of the asbestos (mass tort) litigation in his judicial circuit. He currently serves on the Court's Executive Committee and is currently assigned to the Juvenile and Dependency Division where he serves as administrative judge.

Prior to his judicial appointment, Judge Baker was a partner and/or shareholder in the prestigious personal injury law firm of Searcy Denney Scarola Barnhart & Shipley, P.A. (1984 - 1994). Prior to joining the Searcy Denney firm, Judge Baker was The Senior Homicide Prosecutor for the Office of the State Attorney for the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit (1976 - 1984).

Judge Baker is a 1973 Magna Cum Laude graduate of Florida A & M University, Tallahassee, Florida . On February 11, 1973, he was inducted into the Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. Judge Baker is a 1975 graduate of the University of Florida College of Law, Gainesville, Florida. During his law school career, Judge Baker received the prestigious American Jurisprudence Award (Book Award) for Evidence II.

Judge Baker has presented the following speeches and/or lectures in the legal field: The Evaluation And Preparation Of Product Liability Cases (Boston Massachusetts), The Practical And Technical Aspects Of Using Visual Evidence At Trial (Key Biscayne, Florida), The Persuasive Use Of Demonstrative And Visual Evidence At Trial (Maui, Hawaii), Strategies of Settlement (Snow Mass, Utah), Strategies Of Settlement (University of Alabama), Strategies Of Settlement (Boca Raton, Florida), Dealing With Racial Prejudice And Bias In The Jury Selection Process (Tampa, Florida), Jury Selection (Boca Raton, Florida), The Practical And Technical Aspects of Using Visual Evidence At Trial (New York City), and The Persuasive Use of Demonstrative Evidence At Trial (Atlanta Georgia).

Judge Baker currently serves on the faculty for the Prosecutor/Public Defender Training Program held at the University of Florida College of Law. He also serves on the faculty for Advanced Trial Advocacy Seminar offered by The Florida Bar and held at the University of Florida College of Law. Judge Baker has also served on the faculty of the National College of Advocacy of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. On March 30, 1993, Judge Baker was recognized as an Advocate by the National College of Advocacy. On March 1, 2004, Judge Baker became a member of the Florida Chapter of the Associates of Family Conciliation Court.

As a former member of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers, Judge Baker served on the Board of Directors, Chaired the Minority Policies and Procedures Task Force, served as vice chairman of the Nominating Committee, served on the Malpractice Task Force and was a member of the Constitution and By-Laws Committee. As a former member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Judge Baker served on the Minorities Outreach Committee, served on the faculty and as a Workshop Leader in the National College of Advocacy, and served on the Amicus Curiae Committee.

Judge Baker, throughout his life has been extremely active in the affairs of his community and has held leadership positions in the following organizations: Urban League of Palm Beach County, (Chairman of the Board Directors), Vision Teen Parenting Foundation, (Board of Directors ), Boys & Girls Club of West Palm Beach, (Board of Directors), Zoological Society of the Palm Beaches (Board of Directors), Armory School and Visual Arts Center, (Board of Directors), Goodwill Industries (Board of Directors), Community Foundation For Palm Beach and Martin Counties (Board of Directors). Judge Baker currently serves on the Advisory Board of Directors of the Boys Scouts of America.

Judge Baker has received numerous awards and recognition for his work in his community, including but not limited to the following: Outstanding Achievement Award presented by Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Community Service Award presented by Tabernacle Baptist Church, Certificate of Appreciation presented by Palm Beach Community College, Special Appreciation and Recognition Award presented by Vision Teen Parenting Foundation, Outstanding Community Service And Support To Palm Beach County presented by Suncoast Chamber of Commerce, Recognition Award presented by Minority Law Enforcement Council, Recognition Award of Appreciation presented by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Award for Outstanding Services from the Guardian ad Litem statewide program (Florida), Outstanding Services to the Students of Inlet Grove Community High School, and Community Relations Award for providing alternative students with various choices to learning styles from the Black Educators Caucus of Palm Beach County. Finally, he is the 2005 recipient of the Trail Blazer Award for his service to the children of Palm Beach County.
