Planning

The Palm Beach County Division of Emergency Management’s Planning Section focuses on a number of topics related to emergency management.  It is responsible for undertaking long-range planning activities, including the preparation and update of the Countywide Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan (CEMP), which is a specific policy document guiding growth and development, and provides detailed operations and procedures for the County, its jurisdictions, and each of the six Emergency Operating Areas (EOAs) covering the County.  The Planning Section also coordinates the efforts of various community stakeholders (e.g., municipal, county, state, and federal government agencies; non-profit organizations; and citizens' groups) in order to develop comprehensive strategies to safeguard the lives and property of Palm Beach County citizens and businesses.

The Planning Section staff coordinates with the County’s 38 municipalities, some of which have their own CEMPs and a local Emergency Operations Center (EOC).  The Staff is dedicated to planning for a variety of natural, intentional, and technological hazards, including terrorism and radiological incidents.  We continue to focus on the current topics in emergency management, such as improving the County's Community Rating System (CRS) level, developing protective actions for a potential breach in the Herbert Hoover Dike, preparing for an influenza pandemic, and mitigating against the consequences of future hazards.
