Lake Okeechobee

 

Economic Impact. Lake Okeechobee is a very important recreational asset to the Glades Communities. It has the potential for greater recreational usage and thus an increasingly positive economic impact on the local business community. The State of Florida's Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail Project will have positive economic spin-offs. There is also the Greater Lake Okeechobee Regional Plan for Tourism. Lake Okeechobee is the second-largest freshwater lake in the continental United States: surface area 730 square miles; depth averages 9 feet (2.7 meters).

Geographic Proximity. The commute between Belle Glade and Pahokee is 10.9 miles, and driving from Belle Glade to South Bay is 4.3 miles. Traveling by road from Belle Glade to downtown West Palm Beach on the coastline is 44.0 miles.
