Business & Economic Development & Revitalization Corporation (BEDR)

 

Organization and Mission. The Business & Economic Development & Revitalization (BEDR) Corp. is a county-wide, non-profit "community development corporation" that was formed in 1992. It works to achieve change by creating new jobs, economic opportunities and pride in the blighted/underdeveloped areas of Palm Beach County. BEDR works to bring together public and private resources to increase opportunities for revitalizing communities. The organization is an economic development and fair housing proponent. It is an advocate of local leadership and local ownership, inclusive participation in the community, and innovation.

Services and Activities. BEDR'S services to the community include:

  • Business Development Incubator Training Program. Providing an academic business training program. Through a collaborative effort with Northwood University, the Incubator Program offers a comprehensive series of practical application workshops and classroom training to prepare budding entrepreneurs for ownership and profitability.
  • Micro-Loan Program. Identifying qualified prospects to participate in a program that offers an opportunity for micro and small business owners to receive business credit and training. These owners form loan groups, build a credit record, develop their business skills, and obtain business loans of up to $5,000.
  • Northwest Neighborhood "Banyan Place" Project. Working with the residents of the Northwest Neighborhood of the City of West Palm Beach to design a commercial and/or residential development project.
  • Summer Youth Employment Training Program. Developing a summer employment program for students in conjunction with the Palm Beach County School District, the City of Riviera Beach, the Urban League of Palm Beach County, the Weed & Seed Program, John F. Kennedy Middle School, and the Street Beat Program. This program aims to integrate academic achievement and vocational training through project-based learning, entrepreneurial training and arts enrichment.
