Announcement: Palm Beach County has created the Department of Economic Sustainability (DES), combining programs for business development, housing, and community initiatives. This department's mission is:

To advance community sustainability by increasing economic competitveness and improving the elements that create a high quality of life for Palm Beach County's residents.

Glades Communities Initiatives

Economic Development Support Network
The Glades Communities, which are located in the northwest part of Palm Beach County, are the focus of various economic development initiatives. There are three municipalities; Belle Glade, Pahokee and South Bay, which are surrounded by unincorporated areas that are rural and agricultural. Lake Okeechobee is situated immediately adjacent to the communities. The public and private sectors, including non-profits, provide a support network dedicated to business development, job creation and training, and increasing tourism in the area. The Glades Communities and Palm Beach County are partners in the collaborative effort to attain these important economic development goals.
