The Palm Beach County Office of Equal Opportunity administers Article VI of the Palm Beach County Code, which prohibits discrimination in employment because of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy discrimination and sexual harassment), national origin, age, marital status, disability, sexual orientation, familial status or gender identity or expression. These provisions cover all conditions and terms of employment including recruitment, selection, promotion, transfer, pay, tenure, discipline, discharge, and privileges. This law applies to all employers located in Palm Beach County with 15 or more employees, to labor organizations, and to public and private employment agencies. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, is the federal law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 prohibits discrimination on the basis of a disability. Individuals who prevail in a charge of employment discrimination brought under these laws may be awarded specific relief to eliminate the effects of the discriminatory action. An individual is protected in his or her right to file a charge. Retaliation against a person for having filed a charge of discrimination, agreeing to be a witness, or assisting in an investigation of employment discrimination is also against the law.
An employment discrimination charge must be filed with the Palm Beach County Office of Equal Opportunity within 180 days of the date that the discrimination took place. A charge may be initiated by writing, telephoning, or visiting the Palm Beach County Office of Equal Opportunity.

Under Palm Beach County's Equal Employment Ordinance, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), it is illegal to discriminate in any aspect of employment, including:
- hiring and firing;
- compensation, assignment, or classification of employees;
- transfer, promotion, layoff, or recall;
- job advertisements;
- recruitment;
- testing;
- use of company facilities;
- training and apprenticeship programs;
- fringe benefits;
- pay, retirement plans, and disability leave; or
- other terms and conditions of employment.
Discriminatory practices under these laws also include:
- harassment on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or age;
- retaliation against an individual for filing a charge of discrimination, participating in an investigation, or opposing discriminatory practices;
- employment decisions based on stereotypes or assumptions about the abilities, traits, or performance of individuals of a certain sex, race, age, religion, or ethnic group, or individuals with disabilities; and
- denying employment opportunities to a person because of marriage to, or association with, an individual of a particular race, religion, national origin, or an individual with a disability. Title VII also prohibits discrimination because of participation in schools or places of worship associated with a particular racial, ethnic, or religious group.
