In order to live in a sustainable environment, the Earth's resources must be used at a rate at which they can be replenished. In an effort to ensure our county reaches the goal of "sustainable living", the Palm Beach County (PBC) Board of County Commissioners has initiated a new way of doing County business that will effectively manage energy, air, water, waste, health, and land.

While each County department plays a role in this process, the Department of Environmental Resources Management is leading the way. Our role is to:

• Coordinate environmental sustainability for all PBC departments.
• Provide support and follow up for the PBC Green Task Force.
• Oversee PBC's application to become a Florida Green Local Government.
• Represent PBC on the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives.
• Revise language to incorporate "greening" into the PBC Comprehensive Plan.
• Represent PBC on the SE Florida Regional Climate Change Initiative.
• Support environmental sustainability-related conferences and expos such as the SE Florida Regional Climate Leadership Summit.
