The County’s Emergency Management Division of the Public Safety Department is responsible for maintaining and developing contingency plans for major disasters. In the event of a major disaster, the Division will coordinate, assist and support response and recovery efforts to protect the lives and property of Palm Beach County residents. The Division and the American Red Cross maintain emergency shelters throughout the County in the event of a disaster. A hurricane preparedness brochure is available through the Division.

The Emergency Medical Services office of the Department of Public Safety’s Emergency Management Division enforces County Emergency Medical Services ordinances. This office authorizes, regulates and inspects ambulance services, paramedic services and fire-rescue emergency medical services in Palm Beach County. The County Health Unit’s Division of Environmental Health is responsible for enforcing State statutes, codes and County ordinances relating to the preservation of the public’s health. An inspection program is maintained for public facilities including child and adult day care centers, schools, detention facilities and mobile home parks. Private well water samples are taken and analyzed for bacteria. Sanitary nuisances are also investigated. Any suspected threat to the public health should be reported to this Division.
