The Edward J. Healy Rehabilitation & Nursing Center operates under the Health Care District and provides skilled nursing and medical care for indigent residents of Palm Beach County. Care is given to the terminally ill, AIDS victims and to pre- and postoperative patients. The Center offers occupational and physical therapy, individual and group counseling and referral service.

The County’s Emergency Management Division of the Public Safety Department is responsible for maintaining and developing contingency plans for major disasters. In the event of a major disaster, the Division will coordinate, assist and support response and recovery efforts to protect the lives and property of Palm Beach County residents. The Division and the American Red Cross maintain emergency shelters throughout the County in the event of a disaster. A hurricane preparedness brochure is available through the Division.

The Emergency Medical Services office of the Department of Public Safety’s Emergency Management Division enforces County Emergency Medical Services ordinances. This office authorizes, regulates and inspects ambulance services, paramedic services and fire-rescue emergency medical services in Palm Beach County. It also investigates complaints regarding these services and 9-1-1 activities.

Air pollutants from commercial or industrial operations, and open burning are monitored by the Health Unit’s Environmental Sciences and Engineering Division. This office issues permits for air pollution control devices and enforces State air quality standards. Complaints concerning odors from air pollutants should be directed to this office.

The Environmental Control Office, a division of the County Attorney’s Office, investigates environmental and health code violations referred by the County Health Department. This office advises the Health Department in all legal matters and serves as its representative before the Palm Beach County Environmental Control Hearing Board and the Circuit Court.

The County Health Unit’s Division of Environmental Health is responsible for enforcing State statutes, codes and County ordinances relating to the preservation of the public’s health. An inspection program is maintained for public facilities including child and adult day care centers, schools, detention facilities and mobile home parks. Private well water samples are taken and analyzed for bacteria. Sanitary nuisances are also investigated. Any suspected threat to the public health should be reported to this Division.

The Environmental Sciences & Engineering Division of the Health Unit is responsible for air pollution control, drinking water quality inspection (mobile and stationary), waste water control, solid waste and hazardous waste control, swimming pool and septic tank inspections and permitting.

Responsible for activities and issues pertaining to protection, preservation and enhancement of the natural resources of Palm Beach County. Serves residents Countywide and is responsible for conducting investigations into complaints of discrimination in the areas of employment and fair housing. Additionally, OEO provides human relations training, referral services and is a federally recognized equivalent agency under the federal civil rights laws - Title VII (employment) and Title VIII (fair housing). Through OEO, Palm Beach County residents have direct access to protection of civil rights under local, state and federal laws. OEO consists of three programs: Equal Employment and Fair Housing, Handicap Accessibility, and the Human Relations Camp.

Dyer Park, located at the intersection of Haverhill Rd. and Dyer Blvd., includes 3.4 miles of scenic trails that run along the perimeter of the park and parking for horse trailers and their vehicles in the horse paddock area. Trails are open 7 days a week, sunrise to sunset.

To have a tenant legally removed from property, an eviction notice must be filed with the Clerk & Comptroller’s County Court Civil Division. A filing fee is required for this procedure. Florida Statute, Chapter 83, outlines the procedure and forms needed to file.
