Experienced from
multiple directions up and down
Okeechobee Boulevard, "Wave" is a
welcoming gateway to Palm Beach
County and the City of West Palm
Beach for hundreds of thousands
of residents and visitors each year.
Designed by internationally renowned
artist Barbara Grygutis, "Wave" is
composed of five 30-foot sculptural
arcs made of perforated aluminum and
kinetic LED lights. At night the
lights cycle through shades of blue,
evoking the rolls of waves as they
cascade onto the shoreline. By
day, natural light moves through the
sculpture forming undulating moiré
patterns. "Wave" was designed
to echo the water theme of the
Convention Center's interior décor
and to remind us that the Convention
Center is only a few miles from the
Atlantic Ocean, which touches the
eastern edge of Palm Beach County
for a total of 47 miles, north to
south. Already a landmark
building in downtown West Palm
Beach, the Convention Center's first
public art installation, "Wave", is
sure to become a nationally
recognized icon for the facility. |
