“Glades Legacy of Life” is functional and beautiful. Each of the four-sided columns includes approximately 850 individually cut pieces of glass, for a total of more than 8,400 pieces. Glass designs depict the natural and agricultural environment of the Glades.

The colorful columns can be seen from State Road 80 and offer a welcome invitation to those who pass by. The benches and stepping stones offer comfortable and artistic new amenities for the public use.  The bench and stepping stone designs were inspired by traditional Seminole symbols. The Artist team taught more than 20 youth from the Belle Glade Boys & Girls Club about the art of tile mosaics. Fifth through tenth grade students selected their tile colors and symbol and each student individually created the layout for his/her stepping stone. The artists cast the glass tiles into concrete. Through a community meeting, Glades residents helped the artists select which vegetables, plants and wildlife to depict on the columns, so that the design appropriately reflects the agricultural bounty and natural environment of the Glades.
