Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue receives many inquiries regarding training requirements and career opportunities within the fire service. The following information is intended to answer some of the more commonly asked questions.

What requirements do I need to meet in order to apply for a job at Palm Beach County Fire Rescue?
  • be at least 18 years of age,
  • have a high school diploma or GED,
  • hold at least Florida certification as a State of Florida Firefighter through the Firefighter Minimum Standards Training,
  • have passed a CPAT within the last year, and
  • hold a valid EMT or Paramedic license with the state of Florida
How can I get the Firefighter Minimum Standards Training?
In Palm Beach County, Palm Beach State College offers the 480 hour Minimum Standards Training. Additionally, all prospective students must pass the National Firefighter Selection Inventory-Test (NFSI), the basic scholastic (TABE TEST) and the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT). A point system has been formulated to ensure processing of all applicants who desire to enter into one of the three EMS/Fire programs. I have firefighter training/certification from another state. Is it transferable to Florida?
Firefighter certifications are administered by the Bureau of Fire Standards, Florida State Fire College in Ocala, Florida. For specific details, please visit their website or call (352) 369-2800.

What other training opportunities are available?
Additional training and certifications, which are available locally, can improve your chances for a fire service career. Classes in a variety of subjects include pumper operator, extrication, rope rescue, hazardous materials, confined space rescue, the paramedic training program, a two year Associate's Science Degree in Fire Service or Emergency Medical Services.

 
How do I apply for a job with Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue?
Palm Beach County Employee Relations and Personnel Department, 5616166888, administers our hiring process. Normally, we only accept applications when a position is being advertised. Vacancies are determined by our staffing requirements and budget, and are advertised on the internet through the County's Job vacancy section.

 
Can I submit my application on any given day?
No. Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue does not accept applications on a daily basis. Specific date, time and location are posted and advertised in advance of any given process.

  • driver history report.
