About This Song:

Originally written by Gioacchino Rossini around 1829 for the opera "William Tell", The Green Hills of Tyrol is one of the oldest, best known bagpipe tunes today. In 1854, Pipe Major John MacLeod transcribed the piece to the bagpipes after hearing it played by a Sardinian military band while serving in the Crimean War.
