Florida Yards and Neighborhoods Advisor

 

Reports To: Keith Patton, Florida Yards and Neighborhoods Coordinator

General Description: Advises on FY&N principles at residential sites, condominiums, and homeowner associations

Principle Duties:

  • Share the 9 Florida friendly principles and yard actions with interested people.
  • Site evaluations of landscapes are evaluated for a Certified Yard designation.
  • Work with individuals to help select the right plant for the right place.
  • Staff Master Gardener/ FYN booths at area events. (South Florida Fair, Tropical Flower Show, Everglades Day, Riverfest, Mounts' Plant Sales, Naturescaping, Home & Garden Shows, etc.)
  • Incorporate the 9 principles into your own landscape.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of the Master Gardener training program
  • Successful completion of advanced FY&N 9 principles training
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others
  • Desire to learn more about plants and their pests
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Dependable and reliable
  • Deal courteously with the public
  • Willing to work with a partner

Procedures:

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Dress appropriately for professional office work and meeting with the public
  • Wear your Master Gardener name badge
  • Arrive on time
  • Call if you cannot keep your scheduled time

Staff Responsibilities:

  • Conduct advanced Master Gardener training on Yard Certification.
  • Assist MG Coordinator with MG Advanced training modules
  • Provide educational materials for distribution.
  • Provide Certified Florida Yard signs, evaluation checklist and clipboard
  • Provide the names of potential partners or buddies in your geographical location for team yard certification
  • Contact Geographical Team Leaders when interested people are ready to have yard evaluated.
