General Description: Maintain demo gardens, plant labels and interpretive signage
Principle Duties:
- Properly prune demo plants
- Installation of new plants
- Identify problem plants and suggest plant replacements
- Mulch plant beds
- Check irrigation systems for leaks, blockage and spray patterns.
- Identify plants and submit plant names (common and botanical) for plant labels to be made.
- Update interpretive information as the gardens' evolve.
- Keep birdbaths cleaned
Qualifications:
- Successful completion of the Master Gardener training program
- Ability to effectively communicate with others
- Desire to learn more about plants and their pests
- Desire to work outside
- Ability to bend, reach and lift during the physical part of garden maintenance
- Dependable and reliable
- Deal courteously with the public
General Office/Garden Procedures:
Volunteer Responsibilities:
- Dress appropriately for environmental conditions and encounters with the public
- Bring personal equipment like gloves, hats, knee pads, hand-pruners, sun block, insect repellant, bottled water
- Wear your Master Gardener name badge
- Arrive on time
- Call if you cannot keep your commitment
Staff Responsibilities:
- Provide plants, plant labels and interpretive signs upon request
- Provide mulch, pitch forks, rakes and wheelbarrows
- Provide information and training on pruning expectations
- Assist with garden renovations and new designs
