Reports To: Keith Patton, Florida Yards and Neighborhoods Coordinator
General Description: Advises on FY&N principles for residential sites and homeowner associations.
Principle Duties:
- Assist class participants on selecting the right plant for the right place.
- Advice on plant characteristics (height, diameter, growth habit, salt tolerance, sun, shade, temperature ranges)
- Provide information on flower color, thorns, toxicity, wildlife attracting qualities, potential pests, disease, or particular maintenance concerns
Qualifications:
- Successful completion of the Master Gardener training program
- Successful completion of advanced FY&N training
- Ability to effectively communicate with others
- Desire to learn more about plants, pests and landscape design
- Ability to work with diverse populations
- Dependable and reliable
- Deal courteously with the public
General Office Procedures:
Volunteer Responsibilities:
- Dress appropriately for professional office work and meeting with the public
- Wear your Master Gardener name badge
- Arrive on time
- Call if you cannot keep your commitment
- Bring favorite gardening book(s) as a resource
Staff Responsibilities:
- Schedule workshops
- Provide IFAS publications for class attendees
- Bring assorted garden books as resource materials
- Provide other props and resources for use in landscape design
- Support MGs ideas and recommendations
