BCC Briefs January 9, 2007

At the January 9, 2007 Board of County Commissioners meeting, the board took the following action:

South Florida Science Museum – approved a request to delay the start of construction of a new museum planned on 11 acres at Lake Lytal Park. The new start date is April 2008 with completion slated for April 2010.

Community Land Trust – appropriated $200,000 per year for each of the next two years to fund salaries and expenses for the Community Land Trust of PBC. The agency will concentrate on increasing and maintaining the inventory of attainable housing in Palm Beach County.

Supervisor of Elections – amended an interlocal agreement with Palm Tran and the Solid Waste Authority to include the Supervisor of Elections. The office is becoming independent from the County’s payroll system, but wishes to maintain the same health insurance benefits for its 49 full-time employees.

Yamato Court – approved a property exchange agreement with Yamato Court LLC, selling approximately 20 acres of County-owned land located at Yamato Road and State Road 7 for $4.75 million in return for the acquisition of a drainage easement along Okeechobee Boulevard for $250,000. The easement is needed for a widening project.

FPL – granted a utility easement to Florida Power and Light within a County-owned right of way along Central Boulevard, enlarging a segment of an existing FPL easement, to accommodate construction of the Scripps Florida project.

Environmentally Sensitive Land – supported a resolution asking the Florida Legislature to create and permanently fund a program to preserve environmentally sensitive land when the existing program, Florida Forever, expires in 2010.
