The Palm Beach County Department of Public Safety’s Division of Emergency Management has activated the Cold Weather Emergency Shelter Plan for all of Palm Beach County. The following cold weather emergency shelter location will be open beginning at 7:00 P.M. January 2, 2008:

Transportation can be arranged by dialing 211 (Palm Beach County Crisis Line). The American Red Cross and Palm Beach County will also open a shelter in Belle Glade to accommodate people in western communities. The West County cold weather emergency shelter location will be open beginning at 7:00 P.M. January 2, 2008:

Residents in that area seeking refuge from the cold should contact their local police department or dial the Crisis Line at 211. The National Weather Service predicts overnight wind-chill temperatures as low as 19o F in Western Palm Beach County. The County E.O.C. will continue to monitor weather developments and make announcements on any further shelter openings as necessary.
