PBC Convention Center’s First Public Art Project, “Wave,” Scheduled to be Illuminated

Elayna Toby Singer W: 561-233-0235, C: 561-676-9150 esinger@pbcgov.org

Date: Jan. 13, 2009
Time: 5 p.m.
Where:

Northwest corner of the Palm Beach County Convention Center 650 Okeechobee Boulevard, West Palm Beach, FL 33401

Designed by internationally renowned artist Barbara Grygutis, “Wave” is composed of five 30-foot sculptural arcs made of perforated aluminum and kinetic LED lights. At night the lights cycle through shades of blue, evoking the rolls of waves as they cascade onto the shoreline.  By day, natural light moves through the sculpture forming undulating moiré patterns.  Already a landmark building in downtown West Palm Beach, the Convention Center’s first public art installation,
“Wave,” is sure to become a nationally recognized icon for the facility.

Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners Chairman Jeff Koons will be emceeing the event.

The Palm Beach County public art program provides art that complements public buildings, parks and plazas; creates a sense of place and enhances community identity; improves the design quality of public infrastructure; contributes to the missions of county departments where projects are sited; and through community education expands the traditional definitions of art by broadening public understanding of art’s benefits.

The community is invited to the event.  RSVP is required by Jan. 8.  Please call Palm Beach County Public Affairs at 355-2754.

For more information about “Wave,” contact Palm Beach County Art in Public Places Administrator Elayna Toby Singer at 561-233-0235 (work) or 561-676-9150 (cell) or esinger@pbcgov.org.
