PBC Convention Center’s First Public Art Project Installation UnderwayElayna Toby Singer W: 561-233-0235, C: 561-676-9150 esinger@pbcgov.orgMedia invited to meet the artist of the “Wave” and observe the installation
Designed by internationally renowned artist Barbara Grygutis, “Wave” is composed of five 30-foot sculptural arcs made of perforated aluminum and kinetic LED lights. At night the lights cycle through shades of blue, evoking the rolls of waves as they cascade onto the shoreline. By day, natural light moves through the sculpture forming undulating moiré patterns. Already a landmark building in downtown West Palm Beach, the Convention Center’s first public art installation, “Wave,” is sure to become a nationally recognized icon for the facility. Barbara Grygutis has more than 25 years experience in integrating all of the elements of a site to create a singular visual experience. Barbara’s commissions celebrate community heritage and local natural environments and can be seen in public plazas, libraries, municipal buildings, memorials, sculpture gardens and transit stations across the United States. Grygutis has won numerous awards and commissions, most notably two National Endowment for the Arts awards including the Individual Artist Fellowship and Project Design Award. For more information about “Wave” or to schedule an interview with the artist, contact Palm Beach County Art in Public Places Administrator Elayna Toby Singer at 561-233-0235 (work) or 561-676-9150 (cell) or esinger@pbcgov.org. Free parking is available in the Convention Center parking lot. The Wave Illumination Ceremony is scheduled for Jan. 13 at 5 p.m.
