BCC BriefsAt the January 13, 2009 Board of County Commissioners meeting, the board took the following action: Bond Underwriters – directed staff to work with the Clerk and Comptroller’s Office on recommendations for revising the process of selecting bond underwriting services. Bond Reallocation – approved the reallocation of $1 million in recreation bond funds for construction of the U.B. Kinsey Educational & Community Center ($500,000) and the Gramercy Park Neighborhood Park project ($500,000). Boat Ramps – postponed to the February 3 meeting discussion on possibly establishing a boat trailer parking fee at the county’s five saltwater boat ramps. Water Main – postponed to the February 3 meeting a resolution confirming a special assessment for the 3rd Place and 81st Avenue water main extension. Road Name Change – adopted a resolution renaming Oriole Country Road in West Boca to Judge Winikoff Road in honor of the Palm Beach County Circuit Court judge who passed away in June 2008. Irrigation Codes – adopted an ordinance for unincorporated areas of the county that recognizes Appendix F of the 2007 Florida Building Code for turf and landscape irrigation systems. Small Business Assistance – approved a contract with PBCC’s Small Business Development Center in the amount of $70,500 for the period of Jan. 1, 2009 through Sept. 30, 2009 and a one-time payment of $23,500 for services rendered from Oct. 1, 2008 through Dec. 1, 2008. Affordable Housing – conveyed three county-owned houses to the Community Land Trust of PBC to be sold to low-income buyers. The county will lease the land the homes are on, and only the house itself will be sold, reducing overall costs to the buyer. The county retains mineral and petroleum rights. SHIP – approved an increase of $2,500 to a maximum of $10,000 in SHIP funds a household can receive in foreclosure prevention assistance; also agreed to allow moderate-income households (those earning up to 120 percent of the average median income) to be eligible. Fire-Rescue – approved a consulting/professional services agreement with Kathleen Owens for implementation of a fire-rescue level of service and common communication/dispatch system. Tina’s Café – authorized an expansion of the building space being leased to Tina’s Café on the ground level of the county’s parking garage complex and approved an increase in rent from $23,702 to $31,950 per year for two years. # # #
