Palm Tran Service Board Sets Public Hearing, Discusses Ridership Gains

The Palm Tran Service Board (PTSB) meets on the third Thursday of each month at the Clayton Hutcheson Agricultural Center to discuss Palm Tran’s operations and future plans.

At this month’s meeting of the PTSB on January 15 the discussion included the following:

• Ridership figures for the first quarter of fiscal year 2009 were released, with gains of more than 7 percent showing in three major categories (monthly total ridership, weekday passengers per hour, and average weekday ridership). Palm Tran’s average weekday ridership has increased more than 8 percent when compared to the first quarter of fiscal year 2008. The average weekday ridership total for the first three months of FY09 (October 1 through December 31, 2008) was 35,475 passengers.
• A public hearing will be held February 19 regarding proposed service changes on several Palm Tran routes. These changes are scheduled to take place in May to coincide with the opening of Palm Tran’s new intermodal facility. Routes that currently serve the downtown transfer station on Quadrille Blvd. will be modified to serve the new facility.
