January 22, 2008

Commissioner Jess Santamaria’s monthly community forum on January 21 focused on ways to put an end to government and business corruption. Among the invited speakers were Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, former County Commissioner Ken Adams, National City Bank President Jay Shearouse, Assistant State Attorney Al Johnson, state Rep. Mark Pafford, political consultant Richard Giorgio, Sid Dinerstein, chairman of the Palm Beach County Republican Party and Marty Rogol of Leadership Palm Beach County.

Discussion topics included the need for more transparency in the governmental process, ending public apathy, the high cost of running for office and campaign finance reform, full public disclosure of gifts and contributions, Florida’s Government in the Sunshine Law, bond issuance reform, and the State Attorney’s new public integrity unit.

Approximately 120 concerned citizens attended the three-hour discussion at the original Wellington Mall.
