Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue held a dedication ceremony on Jan. 26, 2009 for the Herman Brice Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue Administrative and Training Complex located at 405 Pike Road, West Palm Beach. County Commission Chairman Jeff Koons was the main speaker, and Commissioner Jess Santamaria and County Administrator Bob Weisman were also in attendance.
The 40-acre site was once used as a Solid Waste landfill and now houses a state of the art training facility as well as offices for Fire-Rescue Administration, Fire Prevention, Fire/Arson Investigations and Community Education.
The training site has been certified by the State of Florida Bureau of Fire Standards. It is the second largest fire training facility in Florida; the State Fire College at Ocala is the largest. Classes began at the complex when it opened two months ago. Future plans include making the site available as a regional training facility for other fire departments in the county.
