Even though last week’s line of tornado spawning thunderstorms did not affect the weather in South Florida, Palm Beach County emergency management officials were on standby to help our neighbors to the north.
Now that help is needed, a crew of nine Emergency management staffers is heading to the Lake County Emergency Operations Center to relieve some the exhausted EOC staffers who have been working non-stop since the area was devastated by tornadoes on February 2nd.
It is not uncommon for emergency crews to assist other counties, or even other states in times of need. Many local emergency crews took part in the aftermath of Katrina, and many outside agencies sent help to South Florida after the storms of 2004 and 2005.
