Commissioner Santamaria Delivers Upbeat “State of the District” Address
At his monthly Community Forum in Wellington on February 20, District 6 Commissioner Jess Santamaria gave a review of his first full year in office and an overview of things to come in year two. The Commissioner said he was proud of being able to help preserve the area’s quality of life, protect environmentally sensitive land, provide more affording housing, promote high-wage job creation, bring needed improvements to the Lake Region, lower taxes and help keep our neighborhoods safe. Some of the key issues facing the Board of County Commissioners now and in the near future, he said, are pet overpopulation and the recently adopted spay/neuter ordinance, rock mining in the Everglades Agricultural Area, economic development in the Glades, and the proposed Central Western Communities Overlay plan. Guest speakers at the forum included Western Communities Liaison Michael Jackson, Parks & Recreation Director Dennis Eschleman, Planning Director Lorenzo Aghemo and Port of Palm Beach Commission Vice Chair Ed Oppel.
