Save, reduce debt, build an emergency savings fund
The Palm Beach County, University of Florida Cooperative Extension is pleased to be partnering with a number of local financial institutions and other groups to observe America Saves Week, February 22 to March 1, 2009. During this celebration week, individuals and families nationwide are encouraged to save, reduce debt and build an emergency savings fund.
On Saturday, February 28, 2009, the Extension Service and its partners will host a “Palm Beach County Saves” event at the Extension Office, 559 N. Military Trail in West Palm Beach, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The day’s activities will include educational workshops for adults and children, shredding of personal documents that are no longer needed, free credit reports, and checking for unclaimed money at the unclaimed money search kiosk. A number of agencies and organizations including Citizen’s Property Insurance, United Way and the City of West Palm Beach Housing will be on hand to answer questions and provide resources. Workshop topics include foreclosure prevention, credit and debt management, how to save, and protecting yourself from fraud and identity theft.
The event is free. Door prizes will be provided compliments of local businesses. For more information or to register, please call the Cooperative Extension’s Family and Consumer Sciences at (561) 233-1742.
