March 11, 2008

On Sunday, March 9th, Commissioner Bob Kanjian attended the dedication ceremony for the South Florida Veterans Administration National Cemetery.  The 313-acre cemetery is located west of Boynton Beach in unincorporated Palm Beach County.  The cemetery is intended to serve the needs of veterans for the next 50 years.  The first national cemetery was established in 1862 and this cemetery is the 125th national veterans cemetery established in the United States.

Prior to departing the cemetery, Commissioner Kanjian pauses in a moment of silence to show his respect to the hundreds of honored veterans buried there.

The dedication ceremony opened with a howitzer salute and then closed with a three volleys from a rifle honor guard followed by a bugler playing "Taps."  Following the ceremony, Commissioner Kanjian joins Claudia Tuck, the County's Director of Human Services and Veteran Services, at the unveiling of the bronze dedication plaque.
