Electronic Press Release

ERM to Hold Public Meeting Thursday on Historic Jupiter-Indiantown Trail

For immediate release: March 17, 2008
Contact: Ginny Powell, PBC ERM Phone: 561-233-2452 gpowell@co.palm-beach.fl.us

The public is invited to attend a public meeting on Thursday, March 20, 2008 to discuss the County’s grant application for funding from the Recreational Trails Program (RTP) for Phase 1 of the Historic Jupiter-Indiantown Trail in Palm Beach County.
Phase 1 of this proposed NENA* trail runs through the Palm Beach County portions of the Cypress Creek Natural Area along the Old Indiantown Road (OIR) grade.  The public will have an opportunity to learn about the proposed project, make comments, and receive feedback.

WHAT: Public Meeting to discuss Historic Jupiter-Indiantown Trail
WHERE: South Indian River Water Control District (SIRWCD)
15600 Jupiter Farms Road, Jupiter Farms
Phone:  561-747-0550
WHEN: Thursday, March 20, 2008 • 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

DIRECTIONS TO THE MEETING:  From the turnpike or I-95, go west for two miles.  Make a left turn on Jupiter Farms Road.  Go south on Jupiter Farms Road approximately 2.5 miles.  The SIRWCD is on the east side of the road.

DETAILS:  The OIR grade is traceable for most of its 20-mile length between   Palm Beach County’s Riverbend Park and Indiantown, Florida. The Historic Jupiter-Indiantown Trail is a proposed recreation trail that will eventually connect the two places once again. It is also an important link in the proposed gigantic loop trail in NENA running between the Florida Turnpike and Lake Okeechobee. In Palm Beach County, the trail passes through both the recently acquired Jupiter Venture/Hatcher property and the Cypress Creek Natural Area.

Comments will also be taken on the grant application by e-mailing Vivienne Burnett at vburnett@co.palm-beach.fl.us.

*NENA is an acronym for the Northeast Everglades Natural Area, a collection of more than 145,000 acres of natural areas in northern Palm Beach County and southern Martin County and the connectors between them.  For more information about this project or other NENA projects, visit our website at http://www.co.palm-beach.fl.us/erm/nena/ or call 561-233-2400.
