Event Debuts Online Voting Option
The Palm Beach County Film and Television Commission, in cooperation with the Economic Development Office, is participating in the 13th annual Student Showcase of Films Partnership where students showcase the films they’ve created. This year, for the first time ever, citizens can vote online for their favorite Student Showcase of Films video entry.
“Citizens are urged to take part in the voting” said Kevin Johns, Palm Beach County Economic Development Director. The audience voting collaboration was set up though the assistance of Palm Beach County Information Systems Services employees Vishal Shukla, Larry Welter and Chip Urbach.
The Student Showcase of Films has become known as the most prestigious competition for Florida student filmmakers. The juried statewide competition recognizes outstanding high school and college students by presenting awards, prizes and scholarships.
The top 14 eligible films are voted on by the Student Showcase of Films judges from around the country are now available online for voting. These films are as follows:
- The Chosen One (A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts)
- Detective Mullet and the Case of the Golden Hair Pick (G-Star School of the Arts)
- Harvest Moon (Florida State University)
- Hope (Florida State University)
- Jupiter in Jeopardy (Jupiter High School)
- Kirksdale (Florida State University)
- La Tristesse de M. Jaccoud (Design and Architecture Senior High School)
- The Master (Full Sail)
- Satori (A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts)
- Stairway to Heaven (A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts)
- The State of Sunshine (Florida State University)
- Think: Darfur (G-Star School of the Arts)
- Vendetta (Design and Architecture Senior High School)
- When Life Gives You Lemons (A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts).
The Student Showcase of Films awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at Palm Beach Community College’s Lake Worth Campus, Duncan Theatre, at 10 am. A Special Audience Award will be presented at the Student Showcase of Film’s Award ceremony.
