Commissioner Koons Welcomes Congressman Wexler

A press conference was held at the Tri-Rail station in West Palm Beach on March 23, 2009 with Commissioner Koons, Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL), local leaders and representatives from Palm Tran and the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority. The purpose was to outline new stimulus funding for local transportation projects and discuss how the economic stimulus package is helping Palm Beach County and the entire South Florida region improve public transportation systems and embrace energy efficiency. Congressman Wexler voted for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, an economic stimulus package signed into law by President Barack Obama.

The press conference was held at Tri-Rail's soon-to-be-opened intermodal hub that will allow Palm Tran riders to connect seamlessly with Tri-Rail service. The economic stimulus package is helping Palm Beach County purchase ten new hybrid buses for Palm Tran that are more energy efficient and help reduce greenhouse gases. Stimulus dollars are also contributing to the production of jobs locally and nationally.
