Members of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Palm Beach County Chapter have selected Commissioner Jeff Koons as their 2010 Elected Official of the Year in recognition of his outstanding dedication and service. The award is given each year to advocates whose efforts go above and beyond the duties of their elected office to make a significant difference in the lives of others. Commissioner Koons was honored for his commitment to launching initiatives that address the root of many social problems.
An awards ceremony was held on March 26 during an event at the South County Civic Center celebrating National Professional Social Work Month. Commissioner Koons regretfully was unable to attend due to a prior commitment in his role as chairman of the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority.
In accepting the award on his behalf, Senior Administrative Assistant Kim Ciklin thanked the membership and said, “Commissioner Koons has a heart of gold and a genuine desire to help others in need. He strives to create public/private partnerships, linking programs to achieve positive outcomes. He is humbled and honored to work with social workers and social service agencies to improve the quality of life in Palm Beach County.”
