Open House and Public Hearing Set for Limestone Creek Natural Area Draft Management Plan

For immediate release April 4, 2006
Contact: David Gillings, 233-2477, Environmental Resources Management

The Palm Beach County Natural Areas Management Advisory Committee (NAMAC) will hold an open house and public hearing on the draft management plan for the County-managed Limestone Creek Natural Area on Thursday, April 20, 2006 at the Jupiter Emergency Operation Center (JEOC). The JEOC is located at 3133 Washington Street on the south side of Church Street, approximately a quarter-mile east of the entrance to Jupiter Community Park. Church Street is approximately a quarter-mile north of Indiantown Road off of Center Street. The open house will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and will be followed by a public hearing from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The purpose is to allow residents to learn about the passive public recreational facilities planned for the site and to have an opportunity to comment on the draft management plan. Copies of the draft, site maps, and other displays will be available at the open house for public inspection. Department of Environmental Resources Management staff will also be present to answer questions.

The public hearing will be conducted by NAMAC chair Fred Davis. The hearing will provide a forum for public comment for those citizens who were not able to attend the open house or who wish to address the committee members directly. NAMAC members will consider the comments provided at the open house and public hearing and may recommend revision of the management plan before it is sent to the Board of County Commissioners for approval.

"County staff and our committee have worked extensively on this plan," said Fred Davis. "We're looking forward to hearing from the people who live in the communities surrounding this preserve.”

Copies of the draft management plan also will be available for public inspection beginning on April 6, at the Jupiter Branch of the Palm Beach County Library, 705 Military Trail; the North County Regional Library, 11303 Campus Drive, Palm Beach Gardens; and the reception desk at the Town of Jupiter Community Center.
