DISTRICT SIX COUNTY COMMISSION REPORT

I've highlighted some of the items pertaining to District Six from the April 4th Board of County Commissioner's meeting. If you have any questions or concerns on any item, please call my office at 355-6300.

KidSanctuary to Get Property for Facility - The Board agreed to provide 5.57 acres of surplus County land near the turnpike and Pioneer Road through an RFP process to KidSanctuary, a nonprofit care provider, to allow for construction of homes and facilities for abused and disabled children.

Royal Palm Beach Utilities Purchase - A resolution was adopted to authorize the issuance of up to $130 million in revenue bonds for acquisition of the Village of Royal Palm Beach Water/Waste Water Utility System ($70 million), and construction and installation of extensions as called for in a six-year capital improvement plan ($60 million).

Western Academy Intramural Sports Program - The Western Academy Charter School will get a boost to their Intramural Sports Program with a $10,000 grant from the District Six Recreation Assistance Program. The sports program provides skill-building activities such as football, soccer, basketball, baseball as part of their fine arts program.

RPB Elementary School After Care Program - The Royal Palm Beach Elementary School will receive $4,000 in District Six Recreation Assistance Program funds to help with the cost of their after school program.

Fairgrounds Special Care Shelter Improvements - After the hurricanes of 2004-2005, the Board saw the need make improvements to the Special Care Unit Shelter at the South Florida Fair Expo Center , and the Emergency Operations Center on Military Trail. The Board approved a budget transfer of $245,000 from reserves to make the improvements.

Pahokee Solid Waste Facility - The Board approved an agreement with the City of Pahokee for $150,000 for the construction of a solid waste facility to be located at 1001 Rim Canal Road . The facility will serve as a public access drop and waste transfer site for City residents. The facility will reduce the amount of refuse on streets and vacant land in Pahokee.

Pahokee West 7 th Street Improvements - The Board approved another agreement with Pahokee for $120,000 to regrade and rebuild the swale area on West 7 th Street which was damaged during the recent hurricanes.

Bioscience Development - Appointed Commissioner Marcus to serve on the newly formed Bioscience Land Protection Advisory Board with Commissioner Greene as alternate. The seven-member panel will make recommendations regarding zoning and land development requests relative to biotechnology research uses within municipal overlays in North County.
