Palm Beach County Convention and Visitors Bureau (PBC-CVB) is pleased to announce that Palm Beach International Airport (PBIA) has earned Airport Revenue News’ (ARN) 2006 Airport with Best Concessions Design award for small airports category. This award given out by ARN recognizes PBIA’s outstanding design of its South Florida theme and airport aesthetics. ARN noted that “PBIA’s concessions program is open and bright with excellent sight lines.”
The airport’s concession partners are also recognized recipients of awards. PBIA’s news and gift concession partner, The Paradies Shops, was awarded ARN’s Best Airport Retailer for the eleventh consecutive year, and took home the very prestigious Retailer with the Highest Regard for Customer Service award. The food and beverage concession, HMSHost, received the 2006 Raven Fox Global Travel Retail Award of Food & Beverage Retailer of the Year.
“Our business partners’ commitment to providing conveniences and amenities for our passengers, ensuring a safe and pleasurable travel experience, earned PBIA this recognition,” said Bruce V. Pelly, Director of Airports.
PBIA experienced traffic growth in 10 out of the 12 months in 2005 and surpassed 7 million passengers for the first time. That passenger count represented a 7.3% increase over 2004. Recently, a $23-million capital improvement project was completed; the security checkpoints for PBIA’s concourses were expanded to provide a larger area for passenger screening and for meeters and greeters.
Currently, PBIA has plans for three new gates and other improvements.
WiFi is now available throughout PBIA, and a warm welcome awaits as the award winning volunteer Airport Ambassadors, clad in teal-colored jackets, greet and offer assistance and provide visitor information on “The Best of Everything®” Palm Beach County has to offer.
