Channel 5’s Weagle to Co-Emcee Drowning Prevention Charity Golf Tournament

Steve Weagle and Commissioner Warren NewellWPTV NewsChannel 5 Chief Meteorologist Steve Weagle will join County Commissioner Warren Newell as the masters of ceremonies for the Drowning Prevention Coalition’s first fund-raising charity tournament at the exclusive Trump International Golf Club on Monday, May 1, 2006. The tournament will be held in partnership with the YMCA of South Palm Beach County.

The Drowning Prevention Coalition works to promote, develop and support training and community education efforts that prevent drowning, near drowning and water-related accidents. Tax-deductible golf foursomes are now available by calling Gerri Penney at the Coalition at 561-616-7024. Proceeds from the sponsorships will be used to offer vouchers for free swimming lessons for financially qualified families. Pools accepting these vouchers are located throughout Palm Beach County.

Commissioner Warren Newell, a co-founder of the Coalition in 1998, urges community support for this worthwhile life-saving endeavor.

Weagle joined the NewsChannel 5 StormTeam in 1998 after working for an affiliate of the Canadian Television Network and with the Canadian Weather Service. His community service includes the American Red Cross, Palm Beach Literacy Coalition and honorary chair of Arthur’s Jam for Cystic Fibrosis.
