Palm Beach County Engineer George T. Webb, P.E. was installed as president-elect of the National Association of County Engineers (NACE) at the 2006 NACE Management and Technical Conference, held in Grand Rapids, Michigan, April 9-13.

Nearly 500 delegates, speakers and guests, and 230 exhibitor representatives attended the conference. Highlights of the opening ceremonies included remarks from National Association of Counties President Bill Hansell, chairman of the Umatilla County Commission in Oregon, and Kirk Steudle, director of the Michigan Department of Transportation. The Legislative General Session included comments from U.S. Rep. Vernon Ehlers (R-Michigan), a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Roger Wentz, executive director of the American Traffic Safety Services Association, and Bob Fogel, senior legislative director of the National Association of Counties.

Webb has worked for Palm Beach County since 1981, starting as the assistant director of the Traffic Division and holding various other top management positions before assuming his current position in 1991. He is a graduate of the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science in Engineering. He is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Florida.

As County Engineer, Webb is responsible for administering Palm Beach County’s five-year road program. He also oversees roadway design and property acquisition, construction coordination, surveying, engineering services and contracting, and road and bridge construction and maintenance. Palm Beach County government has also been involved with Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for the past 15 years with one of its first installations within the Engineering and Public Works Department. As chairman of the GIS Policy Advisory Committee, Webb has played a pivotal role in charting the direction of this multi-agency consortium.

Webb has been a member of NACE since 1992 and has served as the association’s Florida state director and secretary-treasurer on the NACE Board of Directors. Webb is also past-president of the Florida Association of County Engineers and Road Superintendents.

Webb and his wife, June, reside in Thousand Pines near Royal Palm Beach and have one son, Jordan.

The National Association of County Engineers serves approximately 1,900 engineering professionals throughout the United States and Canada.
