Congressman Ron Klein to visit Peanut Island

Congressman Ron Klein and Palm Beach County staff will be meeting at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 6th at the Riviera Beach Marina for a boat tour of Peanut Island, the Lake Worth Lagoon and the Sand Transfer Plant at the Palm Beach Inlet. The recently completed Peanut Island restoration project has transformed the island by adding new recreational and environmental amenities. Congressman Klein is assisting Palm Beach County in an effort to attain the remaining balance of funding for this project through the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) currently pending in Congress.

Congressman Klein will also visit a restoration project on the Lake Worth Lagoon. The Lake Worth Lagoon Partnership Grant has provided $12.3 million dollars in State funds and $33.7 million in local funds for restoration projects along the Lake Worth Lagoon. This partnership between local governments and the State of Florida has resulted in thirty-nine projects to date with a goal of restoring the Lagoon including; storm-water drainage improvements, habitat restoration and enhancement, a marina sewage pump-out facility and artificial reef construction.

Congressman Klein is sponsoring a $2 million appropriation request that would expand the Lagoon partnership to the federal government and continue to enhance the environmental restoration efforts on this stretch of the Intracoastal Waterway in Palm Beach County.
