Commissioner Bob Kanjian held a news conference on April 1 in the Governmental Center to update the public on a new drowning prevention education campaign as well as a new legislative initiative intended to minimize the dangers of drowning in pools and spas. He discussed the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool & Spa Safety Act, H.R. 1721, which establishes grants for states to enact laws adhering to safety guidelines in this new federal law. Specifically, the Act addresses suction entrapment prevention from pool and spa drains.
