In partnership with the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department, the Drowning Prevention Coalition of Palm Beach County continues its “Schools and Pools” program by providing free swimming lessons during school hours for all kindergartners and first-graders at Forest Park Elementary School.
According to the Palm Beach County Medical Examiners Office, from 1997 to 2006, the month of April had the most drowning incidents. The Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners declared April as “Drowning Prevention Awareness Month.”
The Drowning Prevention Coalition has taken a pro-active approach to preventing water-related injuries by implementing the “Schools and Pools” program. Over a period of four weeks, approximately 160 kindergartners and first-graders receive six or seven swimming lessons that are 35 minutes long. Upon successful completion of the swimming lessons, students receive special certificates for their participation.
Please call the Drowning Prevention Coalition of Palm Beach County at (561) 616-7068 if you have any questions regarding this program.
