At the April 20, 2010, Board of County Commissioners meeting, the board took the following action:
Water Utilities – approved on preliminary reading and to advertise for public hearing on May 18 an ordinance that would allow the Water Utilities Department to assess fines of $400 for tampering with, making unauthorized connections to, or introducing any material into the county utility system. The $400 fine is the maximum allowed by the citation process.
Water Resources – approved the addition of a regular member and an alternate representing the Indian Trail Improvement District on the Water Resources Task Force, and appointed Mike Erickson and Michelle Damone, respectively.
Panhandling – postponed a proposed ban on the distribution of goods and materials and/or solicitation of funds along county rights of way in order to discuss enforcement costs and logistics with the sheriff.
Public Safety – approved contracts with AT&T and Kimball & Associates for the purchase, implementation and management of the new NG 911 system. All costs are being funded entirely by state grants and revenue generated by the 911 system.
Finance – received the annual financial review from the clerk and comptroller covering the county’s net assets, investments, debt and fund balance.
Courts – approved a request by the Judiciary to fill a vacant System Administrator 2 position at a salary of $71,300. The vacancy is one of 10 county positions assigned to court technology staff.
Economic Development – adopted resolutions supporting Job Growth Incentive (JGI) grants for two Boca Raton companies, Tyco International/ADT Security Services and National Healing Holding Corp. ADT is consolidating its multiple headquarters into one location, which will create 100 new jobs by Dec. 31, 2013. NHHC recently acquired a company in Denver, Colorado and plans to relocate it to NHHC’s headquarters in Palm Beach County, creating 40 new jobs by Dec. 31, 2012.
Business Tax – approved on preliminary reading and to advertise for public hearing on May 18 an ordinance that expands the business tax exemption for live entertainment establishments to those that have an occupancy capacity of 100 customers or less with a county receipt in another business tax category.
